Dan Oakleaf
For me it’s all about the process. Each painting is a roller coaster ride of emotion. There is a certain thrill I get during the creative beginnings and problem solving portions of a work. Then a bit of a let down when a piece is completed. I hurry to start the next painting and the thrill ride begins again.
Value is of the utmost importance in my work. My main interest right now is in exploring the effects of light and shadow. Mostly using oil paint, sometimes thick, sometimes thin, but always direct.
Nature is the basis for most of my work. It seems as though every part of nature is affected by man, and I believe every person should be in some way touched by nature. I like to explore this relationship, sometimes using irony or humor.
Dan is relatively new to the world of fine art. In 2004, after thirteen years working in the graphic arts industry, he enrolled in classes at the Art Students League of Denver and began his journey towards becoming a painter. His early classes at The League were with painters Molly Davis and John Lencicki. In late 2005 Dan met and started his studies with Kevin Weckbach. Dan is pleased to have had the opportunity to study and continue to develope with Kevin’s valued input and guidance.
Recently Dan’s work has been included in several regional shows such as the Louisville National Juried Exhibition and the Glenwood Springs Fall Arts Festival. He was awarded second place in the members exhibit at the Glenwood Springs show. Dan has been selected as an artist in residence for San Juan National Forest for summer 2008.
