Theresa Haberkorn
“In my woodblock prints, I aim to push the limits and "rules" of this rather low-tech medium and utilize it in new and challenging ways. Landscape and natural imagery are used as a starting point for experimentation. Once a set of blocks are carved, I am interested in the subtle nuances of the same image that printmaking provides. I print and rework the image to achieve slight variations by changing the colors, changing the order that the colors are printed, and often, the woodblocks are re-cut or new ones are added. Woodblocks from previous editions are also “recycled” and worked in like components of a puzzle. By working in this non-traditional manner, I am able to experiment and discover new ways of working that I would not have found in any other manner.”
Theresa Haberkorn began her formal art training in high school, at the Pinellas County Center for the Arts in St. Petersburg, Florida. She graduated from the University of South Florida in printmaking in 1994, and has since exhibited her woodblock prints in national and regional galleries and exhibitions. Her work can be found in numerous private and corporate collections including the St. Regis Hotel in Aspen, Colorado and the Vail Plaza Hotel, in Vail, Colorado. In June of 2006, she was artist-in-residence at the Grand Canyon National Park, North Rim.
Ms. Haberkorn has taught woodblock printmaking with the Lifelong Learning Program in Boulder, the Art Students League of Denver, and in her studio in Boulder, Colorado.
